What To Do When the Heat Goes Out

Call it Murphy’s Law, or maybe just a little unluckiness, but we sometimes see heat pump problems in Booneville during the colder seasons, when they’re necessary to keep you comfortable. While you know the team at Booneville Heating & Cooling LLC will constantly be there ASAP when you require us for a heat pump repair, there are some things you can do to confirm that a repair is necessary and save yourself some money if it’s not. We’ve gathered this checklist of things to test before you give us a call.

  1. It may sound ridiculous, but make sure everything is set to “on”. We’ve been to more than a few calls only to discover the thermostat or the heat pump itself is turned off.
    • Look at your thermostat to guarantee it’s on, fixed to the correct temperature and isn’t switched to cool.
    • Then try replacing the battery, if it has one.
    • If everything looks accurate, check your furnace switch (check your manual if you’re hesitant about where it is) and test your fuses and circuit breaker.
    • Double check that your gas is on.
  2. If the furnace still hasn’t turned on, go back to your thermostat.
    • If it’s a programmable model, make sure it’s revealing the accurate time. If it thinks it’s morning when it’s in fact night, it may not switch your heat on because it doesn’t understand that you’re home.
  3. Is an impasse causing your furnace to fail?
    • Examine your air filters to make sure they’re not jamming things up.
    • Do you have any congested ducts, vents or cool air intakes?
    • Are all supply registers open?
    • Is your exhaust flue unobstructed?

If you’ve gone through this checklist and you’re still without heat, call Booneville Heating & Cooling LLC at 662-269-8716 or arrange an appointment online and we’ll get your home back to the welcoming and cozy place it should be.
